So I decided to try something new. I bought some floral green foam and cut it into the shape of a bird. Using Alex Loftus‘ suggestion, I covered it in plaster before painting it and then finally stuck it on the beach. It was so fun to watch people walk by it. At first they would go by normal, then a person in the group would glance over, followed by a double take, leading to everyone stopping to look. probably with the reaction, “is that a fake bird… yep that’s a fake bird alright… freakin random.” I also saw a little girl walk up to it, pat it on the head and keep walking…. yeah it was cute. Then after a few hours i went back and it was gone. I hope it went to a good home, and I’m glad i didn’t have to rescue it from high tide.

your friend,
SewJaBoy… damn i really think its getting to be time for an alias change.
yes. more pics from the mail art show will be posted… owl_or_nothing had the nice camera out, they will be up! For now here are a couple pieces put together by us…

Owl_or_Nothing also made some sweet boats, but I’ll let her post her own pic along with her better photographs.
sorry we haven’t posted, both of us have been suffering from a lack of inspiration lately.

After seeing it on here i regret adding the doc. I knew he didn’t look great, but now its just bothering the hell out of me. here was the draft before him.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

The flyer is complete for the show next month. We’re getting excited about all the art we have (and what’s still coming in).
I was reading the novel ‘Gator a-go-go’ by my favorite author Tim Dorsey, and came across a funny line when two charachters were talking and one said that “some things are worth vomiting for” and the other charachter replied, “I think I’ve seen that crocheted on a pillow.” I guess this is more like hand stitche or embroidery… I don’t… I don’t know these things, but I thought I should bring this imagery to life. not sure what I’m going to do with it yet, but here it is freshly stuffed. enjoy.

Last week when I was in Sacramento I left this piece at Streets of London.

We did a little craft bombing in San Francisco yesterday. We hit up a bunch of tourist spots, it was a lot of fun.

Cars on the Golden Gate Bridge

A gnome at near the Presidio

A gnome in the Lombard Street gardens

A zig-zaggy ’scarf’ at the bottom of Lombard Street

Fish at Fisherman’s Wharf

Mario Brothers **squid** windsock hanging out at the waterfront overlooking Alcatraz

A dragon windsock near the dragon gate to Chinatown

This one is sad, I know. It was already knitted in the bag of yarn I got recently. It kinda looks like a sheep’s hide. I couldn’t untangle it and didn’t want the yarn to go to waste so I hung it in front of the Delfina craft fair.
Just spent thanksgiving in Cleveland Ohio and hung up some softies.

now for the next one, i was running around west side market looking for a dead pig… but i ended up putting it at Bistrickys cause the girl pulled out a lamb head. I did however find a pig, and posted a picture of it too for y’all. sorry to all the vegetarians out there (like my partner Owl_or_Nothing)

That’ll do pig… that’ll do
SewJaBoy out.
I’ve photographed the first batch of returned mail art pieces photographed and here they are. I’m excited about the completed pieces. I’ve also seen a couple sneek peeks of in progress pieces. The show is looking good!

Batman in Wonderland by Nicolas Caesar
I went up to Sacramento to visit SewJaboy this weekend and Saturday afternoon we decided to come up with a little craft graffiti to hang that night when we wandered around for Second Saturday. Here’s our spur of the moment creations.
SewJaboy made a bear flag.
It found a home in front of Bows and Arrows
He also made a little tile mosaic.
We placed it in the window ledge @ Vox
SewJaboy has been asking about how you make quilt squares, so I made a little 8×8 quilted square. I made it quick so my corners are not precise enough, oh well.
This little gem found it’s home in front of Old Soul at The Weatherstone.

My girlfriend and i just spent the weekend in Bodega Bay, where Alfred Hitchcock filmed The Birds. So i thought it seemed fit to put out a couple of my own. Made me up some bird windsocks, and a little stuffed bird…

i watched this one for a bit, and nobody seemed to notice. it even hit a lady in the head and she didn’t flinch. Came back a couple hours later and it was… still there. Went back the next day… gone. Same with the next one that i put up at a wind sock store haha, i couldn’t help myself.

It almost blends in! heck it’s better than that little one on the third pole from the left. I wonder what they did with it, cause it was a whole different set of windsocks the next day. That had to be a confusing moment. Next up is the church from the birds or you may recognize it from an Ansel Adams photograph…

ta-da! If only i went prepared to craft bomb on more vacations. That’s going to be my new years resolution, but I’ll try and start now. Lets see, whats my next vacation… oh! Beautiful Cleveland Ohio… yeah not a top tourist destination. But i guess i could maybe sew a guitar for the rock and roll hall of fame… (narrator voice) will he come through and do this? Stay tuned.

saw this post in the arts calendar, it is a call for small textiles (2″ – 6″) in shapes of stones, kelp, anemone, barnacles, octopi, crabs, shells and other related flora and fauna, due January 15th, 2010. The project will be exhibited at the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge on Kodiak Island to raise awareness to the importance of our coastal waters. We’re gonna participate, you should too!

First up is a sewn shark and some fish that i shoved some magnets in. I wanted to put it up by zuda yoga here in Sacramento, cause it gets a lot of traffic, and to show rachel that i am doing stuff… though not being productive on my alter egos t-shirts (i am shrouded in mystery haha). Anyway… i couldn’t get it to stick to the railroad crossing sign, so i found a metal box down the street.
shark at Home:

shark outside (lost a fish somewhere en route):

Here are a couple construction paper gnomes. I looked like an idiot lamenting them at Kinkos.

oh and here is a random sign for a lost rhino. guess I’ll throw it on the post as well.

I got 2 more lamented gnomes in my backpack… don’t know if i’ll get back to kinkos to make more, though i do think they are fun. OK folks, hope everything is going well for y’all.
SewJaBoy out!
So most of the stuff I put up is at random locations I am unaffiliated with and usually stuff I create, however I felt I should post this.
The bike lock up area at the office
Where I work has been jeopardized. The theifs found out that our gate sucks, and some folks use shoddy bike locks. So I came up with a fool proof plan.
I purchased a beware of dog sign and zip tied it to the gate. Though it may be fairly obvious there is no dog in there, they actually might stop for a second look before barging in. That is funny enough for me. We’ll see how long building management let’s it stay up.
